The Westin Melbourne has played an active role in the brand’s ‘runWESTIN ™. Work Out. Do Good.’ charitable endeavour, encouraging guests and associates to keep fit for a good cause.

The hotel donated 224 new pairs of New Balance shoes worth close to AUD $25,000 to Soles4Souls Australia– which will see their way to kids needing a hand up in their sporting journey.

“This recent Work Out Do Good Charity Run as well as the ongoing Gear Lending initiative is wonderful way of promoting wellbeing through fitness but also helping people in need,” says Kerrie Mulholland, Director of Sales & Marketing for The Westin Melbourne. “We were thrilled to see so many pairs of brand new shoes make their way to Soles4Souls Australia as a result of the charity drive,” adds Kerrie.

Soles4Souls Australia is a charity organization that collects and distributes shoes for worthy children, families and adults in Australia, Vanuatu, Guatemala and Africa.
The Westin Melbourne is amongst 35 Westin properties in the region participating in the runWESTIN ™. Work Out. Do Good campaign that embraces the brand’s ongoing commitment to making fitness convenient for travellers and supporting a worthy cause.

At the heart of the campaign is a gear-lending program with New Balance – an initiative that eliminates the hassle of packing gear, which can be a key barrier to working out while traveling. For just a nominal fee, guests can borrow New Balance running shoes with disposable insoles, as well as a variety of New Balance apparel, including shorts, shirts and socks. In addition, the program extends to the provision of a 5-8km running route map, so guests can combine their workout routine with fresh air and local scenery.

For every 20 guests who lend New Balance gear or use the runWESTIN™ running route map, the hotel donates a pair of new runners to Soles4Souls Australia. Participating guests are invited to write a personalized message to the donation beneficiaries.

More on SOLES4SOULS Australia:
Almost three years ago the idea to collect shoes in Adelaide for re-distribution around the world was born. It was an idea which sparked a community of action Australia-wide, resulting in:

  • More than 100,000 pairs of shoes collected from all Australian states and territories so far
  • Shoes redistributed to people in Australia, Vanuatu, Guatemala and Africa;
  • Hundreds of volunteers who have volunteered thousands of hours to collecting, sorting, packing and transporting shoes for re-distribution;
  • Approx. 50,000kgs of potential waste saved from prematurely ending up in landfill, consistent with global sustainability initiatives; and
  • A partnership with Wesley Social Enterprises which provides meaningful employment in South Australia for people with disabilities
