Mooloolaba icons The Wharf Mooloolaba and SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast are celebrating turning 30 in August with a huge weekend party with heaps of family fun.

Wharf Mooloolaba co-owner Dirk Long said it has been a very big few years for the precinct, so they are looking forward to everyone coming together to relax and enjoy activities over the weekend of the 24th and 25th of August.

SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast Regional General Manager Quinn Clarke said the celebration would be like the precinct’s Family Fun Days with the addition of plenty of special festivities to mark the momentous occasion.

“There will be heaps of great activities as well as a surprise or two! “

Free family activities will include face painting, reptile display, a huge jumping castle and super slide.

“We will also have discounted tickets to SEA LIFE and there will be opportunities to try water activities in the river with Sunreef Mooloolaba, free river cruises with Coastal Cruises Mooloolaba and sailing with the Mooloolaba Yacht Club.

“In addition, there’ll live music, roving entertainers and a fireworks display on Saturday evening, giveaways and more.”

Mr Long said the celebrations were also an opportunity to look back on the precinct’s history.

“Both The Wharf and SEA LIFE have been Mooloolaba icons for decades so we will be running competitions encouraging everyone to dig into their family photos and send in some of their special memories.

“We want to hear about people’s memories and see photos of everyone enjoying the precinct over the years – and we’re sure Sammy the Seal will feature – he is synonymous with both The Wharf and SEA LIFE and he has had more than his fair share of kisses over the years!”

Mr Clarke said there had been a lot of epic moments at the aquarium over the last 30 years. “There have been many moments and we will be celebrating them as well as looking to the future.

“Just one of the moments to be celebrated will be the 1996 filming of Jackie Chan’s movie Police Story 4: First Strike back – and as part of the celebrations “Jackie Chan” will be coming back, courtesy of Madam Tussands.” Mr Long said more details about the celebrations would be made available soon.

“Follow The Wharf Mooloolaba and SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast on social media for details and to be part of the great build up, and of course keep the weekend of the 24th and 25th August free so you can be part of our celebrations!”, Mr Long said.

“People can come and enjoy a great day at the Wharf, choose from the great activities and attractions like whale watching, sunset cruises, scuba diving and snorkeling, check out the attractions at SEA LIFE, enjoy a fantastic meal at any number of the cafes and restaurants which have become destinations in their own right, and do some great shopping too,” Mr Clarke said.

“Where else can you choose from such a great variety of dining and retail options all with those stunning river-front or harbour views.”
