Whether you are planning an amazing vacation with the family or a business trip that will keep you away from home for a longer period, there are some things that you just can’t afford to do in the last minute. There are quite a few things that need you attention weeks, maybe even a month or two in advance before you leave the country so that you can be sure that everything is taken care of. Here, we’re going to take a closer gander at what these things are so that you might be more prepared for your next big trip.

Your visa and permissions

If you are going to a country that requires you to have a multitude of permissions and a visa for your stay there, you need to make sure that everything is ok way ahead of departure. To prevent your ESTA application from being rejected, for instance, it’s best to know all the ESTA denial reasons. Also make sure t submit your requests early on, with plenty of time for a reply as well as a redo in case of an unfavorable answer.

Pet sitters

It can be really hard to get someone to take care of your pets. People have their own lives, and you might just be unlucky enough that your usual dog or cat sitter is sick or has other plans, already made before you decided to ask them one day before you left town. Ask around and find a trusty pet sitter so that you might not spend your trip worried that your pooch or kitten is in harm’s way. Friends and family as well as specialized centers where they can be dropped off (like dog hotels) are viable options here.

If you are renting a place, it would be widely counterproductive to pay rent while you’re not even living there. If you are going to be away for a longer period, talk to your landlord and arrange so that you don’t pay rent for the months in which you are gone. There are multiple ways to go about this kind of situation, the only thing left is to meet with the landlord and start talking. They might not be cool with your initial request, so you need to do this ahead of time to make sure things aren’t left hanging when you need to leave town.

Cancel subscriptions

Nowadays, people have a lot of active subscriptions. Whether you are subbed to a magazine which is delivered to you monthly, use Netflix or Spotify, you need to cancel your subscriptions so that you don’t end up paying a lot of money for things you can’t use. There are plenty of other subs, like the gym membership, or ticket subscription for your favorite sports team. Whatever you got going on, make sure to take care of these ahead of time, so there are no dilemmas towards the end.
