Thredbo celebrates the end of the season with a bang

September 30, 2016 Ski No Comments Email Email

This weekend, Thredbo’s 2016 ski-season officially comes to an end, following some record snowfalls and temperatures, as well as one of the biggest and best après ski line-ups in its history. Delivering yet another year of great on snow action, Australia’s premier alpine resort cumulatively received over four metres of snow, and there’s even more to come. To wrap up the season, Mother Nature is planning a big farewell with a massive 50+ cms of fresh snow forecasted by Saturday.

Some of the memorable highlights of the 2016 season:

The end of June saw one of the heaviest snowfalls in recent history, dumping a massive 70cm+ in 24hrs. The resort was blanketed in a fresh layer of snow just in time for school holidays, with the majority of the mountain opening shortly after. Cold nights saw ideal conditions for snowmaking before another storm mid-July dropped another 50cm+ across the resort.

August was a big month of events, with skiers and snowboarders hitting the slopes for the G.H Mumm Race Week, that served up perfect weather and spectacular racing conditions during the day and poolside après parties by night. G.H Mumm Race Week also delivered Australia’s most iconic race, Thredbo’s Top to Bottom, which saw competitors battle it out conquering Australia’s longest and fastest downhill snow race.

Thredbo also welcomed back the One Hit Wonder Mountain Festival that transformed the resort into a mecca of entertainment and high flying big air spectacles. On the day, weather, speed and jump conditions perfectly aligned for the handpicked line-up of Olympians, World Cup and X Games champions to take on the 100 foot feature.

To match the on-slope action, Thredbo turned up the entertainment and family friendly offerings throughout the season, delivering one of the biggest line-ups of parties ever seen. Live music in the heart of Thredbo Village saw some of best Australian’s leading acts perform free for guests with headline sets from Safia, Jungle Giants, Bag Raiders, Client Liaison, Art Vs Science, Yolanda Be Cool, Gyspy and The Cat and more, all enthralling the masses with explosive live sets.

With the season now wrapping up, Thredbo invites everyone to relive the magic of winter, both on and off the slopes, with this highlight reel of all the action.
