unnamed (43)Following on from an amazing winter, Thredbo Resort has been announced as the Best Australian Resort at the 2015 World Ski Awards™ held in Kitzbühel, Austria on 22nd November. By winning this award, Thredbo joins a prestigious selection of the world’s best resorts. The World Ski Awards are voted on by thousands of travel professionals and skiers who select their favourite resorts, chalets and hotels. They are the only global awards to recognise, reward and celebrate excellence in ski tourism, with a mission to serve as a definitive benchmark of excellence and to foster a new era of growth in ski tourism. Returning to Kitzbühel for a third year in 2015, the awards welcomed leading international figureheads and decision makers to the Alpine resort to celebrate the best in ski tourism worldwide.

The ski tourism business is a vital segment in the global travel and tourism marketplace. An estimated 400 million skier visits take place each year in 2,000 ski resorts that are home to over six million beds.

Thredbo was well represented in the top awards, with the luxurious Rockpool Lodge winning Australia’s Best Ski Chalet for the third year running. Nestled in the eucalypts in a quiet cul-de-sac with crystal clear rockpools on the doorstep, the well-appointed 5 star chalet is a deserving winner of the accolade.

World Ski Awards Managing Director Sion Rapson said: “Congratulations to all of our winners tonight – each is an established leader in our industry and it has been a privilege to recognise their achievements here at A-ROSA Kitzbühel.”

This recent award caps off an amazing run for Thredbo, which not only saw a record season, but also picked up top honours in other peer and industry presentations.

Thredbo was voted the 2015 Best Australian Resort, by Snowsports Industries of Australia (SIA). More than 150 members who include snow retailers, wholesalers, importers and exhibitors were given the opportunity to vote for the top award.

“It is wonderful news for Thredbo to win Best Australian Resort for the first time in the three years that the awards have been presented at the SIA Trade Show, well deserved!” – Snowsports Industries of Australia.

Thredbo was also awarded the 2015 Out and About with Kids ‘Best Ski Resort for Families’ voted for by readers of Out and About with Kids magazine.

“The family travel market is an important and growing one, particularly with the trend to multi-generational holidays and post-babymoons, and our annual Best of Family Travel Awards provide a valuable opportunity for that market to have their say. Every year we see firm family favourites emerge, but we also gain insight into the shifts and emerging trends in family holidays, reflected in the voting,” said Out and About With Kids Publisher, Elisa Elwin.

“The category of Best Ski Resort for families was hotly contended, with over 3,000 votes tallied Thredbo emerged a clear winner with the Out and About with Kids readers. Thredbo’s village atmosphere, fabulous ski schools and beginner slopes and even child care for those too young to ski are quoted as the reasons for Thredbo’s Win,” Elwin continued.

Thredbo’s awards success is testament to the ongoing improvement and upgrading of facilities at the resort, a solid line-up of events and the continued commitment to be Australia’s best year-round alpine resort.
