Thredbo, Australia’s Best Snow Resort, has officially kicked off its 2016 winter season in style with snow falling on Saturday treating visitors to a memorable white long weekend in the mountains. Offering tons of activities for every member of the family thousands of guests visited Thredbo for the season opener.
Freezing temperatures again on Saturday night & Sunday morning saw the resorts snowmakers’ fire up snowguns across the resort. In great news for skiers and snowboarders optimal snowmaking conditions are forecast to continue this week.
In true Thredbo style, the weekend was also filled with nonstop après activities. The centrepiece of the village was a stunning Love Winter ice sculpture, thanks to the king of carving, Kenji Ogawa, who fired up chisel and chainsaw to create an icy village sculpture. On Saturday night, guests were treated to the country’s largest Long Weekend fireworks display that lit up the whole of the snowy mountains. Following this and dance legends Yolanda Be Cool, Art Vs Science and the Sweet Mix Kids put on explosive live sets in Thredbo village that kept the crowds dancing well into the night.
Sunday saw Thredbo Village transform for the G.H. Mumm Long Lunch, which featured a huge outdoor setting, live musicians and a delicious three-course Italian inspired lunch. Guests let their hair down in the crisp mountain air, as they enjoyed a delicious meal outdoors in the village, served alongside G.H. Mumm champagne.
With all bars and restaurants in full swing, freezing temps forecast for the rest of the week and some ideal snowmaking conditions, winter is starting to take full effect in Thredbo.
