Award-winning South Island tourism attraction Tekapo Springs has announced plans to open not one, but THREE new pools for families to enjoy from the busy Christmas period.
The new multi-million-dollar facilities will include an 80 square metre kid’s aqua play/spray area, a 130 square metre kid’s beach access pool and an 80 square metre adults pool.
The new pool additions – themed ‘High Country Tarns’, each with its own distinctive shade of aqua green – are part of Tekapo Springs’ long-term growth strategy for expanding its aquatic attractions and offering a wider range of water temperatures and features.
Construction of the new pools has already begun with a scheduled opening date set for December 26 2015.
Tekapo Springs’ owner and managing director Karl Burtscher said he’s “delighted” to offer more fun and exciting aquatic options for families, children and adults.
“We’ve listened to our customers which has led to the development of a new cooler adult pool – perfect for our increasingly hotter summer days – plus an aqua play and spray area for kids, feature water jets, funnels, geysers, spots and more.
“We plan to run the new pools through winter, depending on outside weather temperatures.”
Tekapo Springs is a year-round attraction nestled of the shores of stunning Lake Tekapo, offering a unique mix of summer and winter recreation and relaxation.
The new pools will add to an attraction that already includes three existing outdoor hot pools, a steam and sauna facility, an ice rink, water slides, summer and winter tubing, a day spa, café and fully licensed bar.
The company first opened to the public in 2007, initially just with the ice-rink. After a successful first winter, the now-famous hot pools were added –shaped like the three local lakes Tekapo, Ohau, Pukaki — and the relaxing day spa which offers sumptuous treatments and rest and relaxation.
In 2009, the snow tube park was launched and welcomed with huge interest, offering locals and international travellers the opportunity to get up close and personal with snow without having to drive up to ski fields.
Since then, Tekapo Springs has added a summer tube park, extended the café and added an ‘al fresco’ terrace overlooking the lake. It more recently brought the world’s largest land-based inflatable slide to New Zealand – The Trippo.
The company has evolved into a year-round “must-do”, on the bucket list of many visitors to the South Island, as well as stamping its mark as an important centrepiece in the Tekapo community.
Open 364 days a year, the new pools epitomise the company’s drive to grow and develop, while continuously exceeding customer expectations.
“After the outstanding summer that we and the tourism industry experienced last year, we felt it was perfect timing to step-up our summer offering and stake our claim as one of the country’s leading tourism operators,” said Karl.
“Watch this space for more exciting news as we get closer to our December opening.”
