Tibet Vista:The Construction of Lhasa-Shigatse Railway Was Celebrated Nationwide in China

After four years of unremitting efforts, Lhasa-Shigatse Railway, built at an extreme altitude, was officially open to passengers on August 15, 2014. “During its construction, the man-made wonder had been through many tough times. The newly-built Lhasa-Shigatse railway extended the former Qinghai-Tibet Railway and made it possible to have an easy access from Lhasa to Shigatse in Tibet,” said Du Jiang, vice director of China Tourism Bureau.

Lhasa – Shigatse Railway Distance:

The 251-kilometer-long railway linked the local capital Lhasa with Shigatse, the second largest city of Tibet. The new line which had 14 stations traveled at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour, and reduced the travel hours from five to two.

Schedule and Fare of Lhasa -Shigatse Railway

The K9821 departs from Lhasa at 9:00 and arrives at Shigatse railway station at 11:59. While K9822 departs from Shigatse at 17:30 and reaches Lhasa railway station at 20:27.There are totally six stations between Lhasa-Shigatse Railway, such as Lhasa Station, Xierong Station, Qushui County Station, Nimu Station, Renbu Station and Shigatse Station.The opening of new railway route would be a new momentum further boosting prosperity of local economy in Tibet.
