Tickets To The Biggest Carnival In Amateurs History Go On Sale

Tickets to the most exciting spring racing carnival in the history of Cairns Amateurs go on sale this week with the launch of a new community events initiative and tourism marketing campaign destined to spark greater interest trackside in 2014.

Now in its 56th year, the three day Cairns Amateurs spring racing carnival once again promises to deliver a glamorous mix of fun, fashion and racing when it runs from Thursday 11 September to Saturday 13 September.

A range of membership, special event tickets and premium hospitality packages are now on sale and the Cairns Amateurs committee urge patrons to secure their tickets before the end of June to take advantage of discounts while avoiding a last minute rush and what is expected to be, bigger than usual crowds.

President of Far North Queensland Amateur Turf Club Inc (Cairns Amateurs), Michael Delaney said plans are shaping well for this year’s carnival that remains the region’s number one social networking event.  The official event program kicks off on Saturday 28 June with the fourth annual Trinity Motors Mercedes Fashion Passport at Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal.

“As a major contributor to the coffers of Cairns, with last year’s event generating 15,137 visitor nights and over $13.9 million to the local economy, our committee takes its role seriously in continuously re evaluating the event and making improvements to make sure it provides patrons with the best possible experience.”

Mr Delaney said last year’s visitor survey conducted at the event showed 95 per cent of respondents endorsing the importance of Cairns Amateurs to Far North Queensland’s community.  “Of those interviewed, 80 per cent believed the event enhances the overall quality of life in the region while 97 per cent agreed it provides a positive contribution to its image, appearance and reputation.”*

While 2013 fielded a great response from the corporate community in terms of event sales, Friday’s ticketing showed room for improvement and is the impetus behind a new campaign we are implementing in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland to boost numbers on what is traditionally Ladies Day or day one of the two day racing carnival.

“We are currently in the process of finalising a series of attractive racing and accommodation packages that will distributed throughout wholesale and retail travel agents across Australia, New Zealand and key hubs in Asia.”

Mr Delaney said last year’s rain putting a dampener on the Cairns Amateurs Ball would not happen again with Fogarty Park with its existing soundshell chosen as the best venue and allowing for large marquees providing shelter to all guests should the weather put on a repeat performance of last year.

Another new initiative being implemented in 2014 aims at boosting community engagement and expanding celebrations into a broader festival spanning arts and culture, sport, education and the environment.

“The Far North Queensland Amateur Turf Club is proud to host the 2014 Cairns Amateurs Carnival and we want everyone to get involved.  We are opening the doors for all event organisers, community groups and businesses to play a leading part to grow what is the region’s biggest event while riding on the back of an established profile and significant marketing campaign.  Our vision is to provide support to those groups and organisations wanting to organise events and projects that contribute to festivities surrounding the Carnival.  The initiative is all about strengthening community involvement, growing the visitation to the region and economic benefits,” said Mr Delaney.

Community events associated with Cairns Amateurs include an official endorsement as an affiliated event, program, marketing collateral and calendar listings, naming rights and use of logo generating extensive media and publicity, networking opportunities and national recognition.
