Australian snow enthusiasts were recently introduced to the resort of Titlis-Engelberg in Switzerland as a winter destination.Participating at the Snow Travel Expo for the very first time this year, Titlis-Engelberg representative, Peter Niederberger, was pleased to report that the region received much interest from attendees over the two weekends in Sydney and Melbourne. Compared to many other parts of Switzerland,Titlis-Engelberg hadn’t been the traditional go-to destination for Aussie skiers; and as a relatively small village, the interest pouring in was encouraging.

Accompanied by Switzerland Tourism’s Marketing Executive, Birgit Weingartner, they shared with snow enthusiasts the many highlights of the region. Top among them included the facts that Titlis-Engelberg is not only home to the largest freeride area in the country, but also Europe’s highest suspension bridge and the world’s first revolving gondola. Its longest ski run stretches 12 km, the glacier stands at a towering 3000m above sea level and its steepest vertical drop is 2000m. The village of Engelberg sits at 1,050m and is only a 45 min train ride away from the historical city of Lucerne. A monastery, cheesemaker and a host of accommodation options are also very much part of the attraction.

Snow enthusiasts also learnt about value-add, such as ski passes that automatically included as part of their winter stays and the series of
discounted winter packages offered for visits between October and May. <>
