The newest retreat in the portfolio, the picturesque Sanctuary Makanyane Safari Lodge in South Africa, offers The Star Bed experience, where guests can fall asleep surrounded only by camp light while listening to the sounds of wildlife. The double storey building is tucked away in a secluded part of the lodge’s 1,800 hectares of private grounds overlooking a waterhole with spectacular views across the Madikwe Game Reserve. The Reserve is abundant with wildlife such lions, elephants, cheetah, buffalo, rhino and leopards and the rare African wild dog.


In Tanzania, Sanctuary Kusini makes the most of Africa’s magnificent dazzling night skies with The Cosmic Safari, where guests will be surprised and awestruck by the stars capes they encounter thanks to no light pollution. After darkguests at Sanctuary Kusini are accompanied by the camp manager on a stellar safari on top of the kopje (a small hill with 360º views), revealing the beauty and mystery of the galaxy and its kaleidoscope of constellations. Sanctuary Kusini is set in the remote southern part of the Serengeti, and is the only permanent camp in this unspoilt territory.


Back to Sanctuary Makanyane Safari Lodge, where guests can live a true South African experience in the form of a night time Bush Braai(barbeque) under the twinkling sky. Using the finest and freshest local and imported ingredients, meat and vegetables are prepared on the barbeque with dishes served in a rustic cum fine-dining style. Sanctuary Makanyane Safari Lodge has an excellent wine cellar with a choice of wines available to complement the braii. Guests can view the open plains at night with the constellations above and remain warm beside specially constructed fire pits for an authentic out-doors experience.


And finally, as the sun sets on the Savannah, The Night Safari at Sanctuary Swala in Tanzania is a remarkable journey through the wilderness to spot rare nocturnal creatures such as the bushbaby, the African wild cat, and the bat eared fox. Sanctuary Swala’s night safaris have specialised lighting that makes it possible to witness lions hunting under the cover of darkness.
