egtmedia59New South Wales has appointed one of Australia’s most experienced media executives, John Hartigan, to chair Destination NSW, the NSW Government’s Tourism and Major Events agency.

“I am delighted to welcome Mr Hartigan as Chair of Destination NSW. His qualifications are impeccable, having most recently headed up the largest and most diverse media company in Australia,” NSW Tourism Minister George Souris said. Dusit-Hot-Deals-Banner-250x250-06

Hartigan is a former chairman and chief executive of News Ltd. Other roles include chairman and director of Sky News and a director of FOXTEL Cable Television Pty Limited.

“His stellar career in media, which spanned more than four decades, his excellent business connections and business acumen, will ensure Destination NSW maintains its course of delivering against the Government’s goal of doubling overnight visitor expenditure by 2020,” Souris said.

“I would also like to thank outgoing Chair, Mr John Conde AO, for his diligence in overseeing the formation of Destination NSW and the remarkable results that have been achieved for NSW in the almost three years he was Chair.”

The Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) hailed Hartigan’s appointment. TTF chief executive Ken Morrison said Hartigan’s long career in the media had given him an outstanding ability to read public opinion and the public mood – skills which would be invaluable in helping to guide Destination NSW.

“Mr Hartigan’s insights and acumen will be of enormous value to DNSW as it seeks to double overnight tourism expenditure to AUD36 billion a year by 2020.”
