Top Ratings for Germany’s Online Presence as Travel Destination

Travel Destination Germany has the best global presence online among fifty five compared tourism websites across five continents. This is the result of a first ever global study, entitled “Destination: Marketing” conducted by Byte Level Research, a research and consulting company which, since it its foundation in the year 2000, has analysed the global websites of companies across a variety of sectors.

Petra Hedorfer, Chief Executive Officer of the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) explained: “More than four fifths of all European travellers to Germany use the Internet for their travel preparation, either for information or as a booking option; visitors from overseas to Germany represent an eighty five percent share of Internet. The GNTB started at a very early stage to offer online content not only in multiple languages, but also to expand our market-specific content. Today, it is the core of our digitalisation strategy – with thirty five country specific websites in thirty different languages. With ten million visitors our online presence is our core and central medium worldwide”.

Byte Level Research’s “Destination:Marketing” report also found that tourist destinations’ websites are less globally oriented than those of travel companies. The aim is to provide useful insights and support for tourist destinations expanding their globalisation. Author John Yunker is a specialist in the study of globalisation on the Internet.
