Topdeck to reach millions globally through ‘instajourney’

Topdeck Travel is taking some of the world’s most powerful Instagram and Google+ influencers on an ‘instajourney’ to snap, tag and share their experiences of an Australian road trip with their global followers.

Topdeck The Big AusNine heavyweight snappers, coming from as far as Brazil and Sweden, are this week travelling across the east coast and Northern Territory with the youth brand and will reach more than five million people each time a photo is posted.

Topdeck Travel marketing manager Mike Doyle said with Gen-Y users abandoning Facebook in the millions*, travel brands are now turning to snap-happy Instagram stars to spark wanderlust among school leavers and 20-somethings looking for adventure.

“Topdeck’s instajourney superstars have a larger audience than prime time TV shows like X Factor and deliver fresh, inspiring content to the palm of your hand,” he said.

“Young travellers, especially young women, are looking for authentic travel experiences, and platforms like Instagram offer a creative way to showcase these as they happen.”

‘The Big Aus’ trip will be one of the world’s largest ‘instameets’, or meet up of Instagrammers, in terms of combined Instagram follower reach.

The 200 million user-strong photo-sharing platform has grown beyond selfies and #foodporn into a full-time profession for some, including Australia’s Lauren Bath.

Part of Topdeck’s instajourney, Gold Coast-based Bath rose to fame within just one year of taking up photography and with clever captions and the right strategies she has managed to leave her previous career as a chef to become a full-time professional Instagrammer.

She has more than 345,000 followers and is frequently invited to travel the world to showcase destinations and experiences on behalf of tourism bodies and travel companies.

“It’s a dream come true,” Bath said. “But I need to remind myself sometimes that I’m only a superstar on Instagram.”

Bath encourages aspiring professional Instagrammers to upload their best work, let their personality shine and spend a lot of time engaging with other photographers on the platform to drive engagement on their posts.
