VIETNAM
A NOTE FROM MANAGING DIRECTOR THUY TIEN
The summer season is almost over and we have recorded a positive trend that shows more and more Vietnamese are able to travel to more exotic destinations within the country, as well as to nearby countries. One reason for this is the average Vietnamese tourist is able to buy air tickets at affordable price.
In 2007 the Aviation Law came into effect, which allows for the establishment of private airlines. In the last two years, competition has surged with the entry of new private carriers bringing the total number of airlines in the country to five. Vietjet and Mekong Air are privately owned, while Jetstar Pacific Airlines is jointly owned by Vietnam Airlines and Australia’s Qantas. While Vietjet Air heats up the market occasionally with tickets from approximately USD1 for new domestic segment, Jetstar promises promotional rate every Friday. However, Vietnam Airlines is still the best and most reliable choice for domestic and regional routes.
We do not expect a considerable reduction in prices, but believe that the competition will bring positive effects on domestic airline market. The airlines will also compete with each other to improve their availability and quality. This means more flexibility and more attention to customer service, and our guests will benefit from these improvements to have an excellent all-round experience to Vietnam.
