Seychelles-TravelMinister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture has been managing his time between the Culture Department at the National Cultural Centre, and the Tourism Department at Espace Building now that his own office has moved to the new Espace Building at the Ile du Port.

It has been scheduled that Minister St.Ange now spends Monday and Friday mornings at the National Cultural Centre to discuss cultural matters with the Principal Secretary, Benjamine Rose and other high officials in the Culture Department.

Cuture meeting

The first meeting was held on Friday 4th July 2014, which was very fruitful, whereby many pertinent issues were discussed and new propositions endorsed.  Out of this meeting came the decision for Cultural officials, inclusive of the National Arts Council Management, to join Minister St.Ange on his series of tourism door-to-door visits around the country to include performing and creative artists on stops during these organised district visits.  This decision follows the request by Honorable Berguitta Jeannevol, the elected Member of the National Assembly for Mont Fleuri who proposed for the Ministry of Tourism and Culture to join her to visit and together look at the possibility of revamping the Rochon Dam area into a tourist attraction.

This approach is also seen to be in line with the appeal that President James Michel made in his State of the Nation Address on the National Day, whereby the President of the Republic urged all Ministers to connect better with the community and to turn commitments made into concrete actions.

Ministers St.Ange and PS Benjamine Rose have also confirmed that they will also now launch a new series of visits to all sections in the Culture Department with the aim to again ensure close communications with the staff, now that his main office has moved away from the National Cultural Centre Building.

The Ministry’s focal point remains that of good communication with all partners, and in ensuring that commitments are turned into tangible outcomes, is the aim of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the wish of each and every Seychellois.

Minister St.Ange has decided to include performing and creative artists and potential tourism sites in districts during his tourism door-to-door visits that he started on Praslin some months ago. The Minister has now visited well over three quarter of the 117 hotel accommodation units of Praslin and he is set to complete these in the coming two to three weeks.

“Remaining accessible to everyone has been key to the success of our management of both the tourism and culture departments. This has been possible because of the open door policy we practice. But this approach is still not enough and the importance of getting out to the districts in today more important than ever. Our tourism partners expect it and they have made clear that they appreciate the personal visit where that have quality time with me in their own premises. The performing and creative artists have now also requested that they are included in these visits. We shall now start this approach on Mahe and then move to La Digue before returning to Praslin to touch that island’s performing and creative artists”. said Minister Alain St.Ange.

The Praslin tourism door-to-door visits have brought very positive feedback and reaction spelled out that this was a first for the industry to welcome their Minister accompanied by his senior staff  to their property. Minister Alain St.Ange has said that he is today better informed than ever before on and about what is being expected by large and small members of the island’s the private sector.
