The announcement yesterday of the resignation of Andrew McEvoy as Managing Director of Tourism Australia is a big loss to Australia’s tourism industry, ATEC Managing Director, Felicia Mariani said today.
“Andrew has been an exceptional advocate for the tourism industry and a leader who truly understands the industry’s needs – his departure will be a significant loss to our industry,” Ms Mariani said.

“Under Andrew’s leadership, Tourism Australia has achieved some amazing outcomes and has worked to set a strategy for the industry, establishing targets and working to a stronger, more profitable outcome for tourism into the future.

“Australia now has pride of place in the world for its destination marketing capabilities, particularly in social media, with Tourism Australia recognised as a leader in the field of destination marketing.”

Ms Mariani said TA’s destination marketing excellence had been recognised internationally, winning recent awards from the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and at the Routes Conference in Las Vegas.

“TA has been recognised globally for its marketing excellence through innovative social media campaigns, compelling advertising campaigns and partnerships and alliances which have put Australia ahead in international destination marketing.

“Andrew’s commitment and contribution has been outstanding and ATEC has enjoyed a constructive and supportive relationship with him personally and with all his team at TA.

“We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Tourism Australia into the future and wish Andrew all the best in his new role.”
