Cruising yachts from around the Pacific and beyond have begun arriving into Fiji ahead of the 35th Musket Cove Regatta which is scheduled to take place from 7-12 September. Organisers have confirmed that early interest in the regatta could see last year’s record fleet of 105 yachts being topped.
The Musket Cove Regatta Co-Ordinator, Mr. Jack Hargraves said, “For more than three decades the Fiji Regatta Week has been famous for its traditional, warm hospitality, excellent racing and a fun factor that remains on high from start to finish.”
“This year the week-long event includes a fancy-dress Pirates’ Day Trip to Beachcomber Island, the ever-popular Tauranga Marinas Sand Bank games afternoon, the Musket Island Rum Run and the Bay of Islands Port Opua NZ, Hobie Cat round robin” Mr. Hargraves added.
Tourism Fiji will be partnering with Musket cove for this signature sailing event and are looking forward to another exciting event this year.
Tourism Fiji Chief Executive Mr. Matthew Stoeckel said, “We are very pleased to hear about the record number of participants expected at this year’s regatta. We hope our partnership will not only attract more international participants to the event but will also increase the profile of Fiji as a sailing destination.”
Special rates are available for those who would like to be part of the celebration but for the sailors, the signature event of the Fiji Regatta Week, is the 20-nautical mile Round Malolo Lailai Race sponsored by Marsden Cove Marina New Zealand.
