Tourism Fiji to establish Public Relations Unit

Tourism Fiji has today announced the establishment of a dedicated public relations unit, based in the organisation’s head office in Nadi.

Comprising two staff, the unit will be responsible for developing and implementing Tourism Fiji’s public relations strategy across the core source markets in which the organisation operates.

“Tourism Fiji undertakes marketing activity in a large number of countries around the world,” says Tourism Fiji’s Director of Global Marketing, Ken Freer. “However, in many cases our budgets are much smaller than those of our competitors.  This means we often can’t generate the same amount of visibility and awareness for Fiji through traditional advertising.  But a successful public relations strategy can give us a reach and return on investment far greater than the sum of our financial investment, helping us compete on a global scale.”

Tourism Fiji already retains professional public relations agencies in Australia, New Zealand and the United States, with a tender currently underway for an agency based in China.  The new unit based in Nadi will be responsible for ensuring these agencies are supplied with a steady stream of the news and happenings from the Fijian tourism industry, be it new hotel and product openings or the many exciting events taking place in Fiji.

The public relations unit will also be responsible for managing Tourism Fiji’s international media visitation programme.  “In 2014 we will welcome over 70 foreign travel journalists to Fiji.  It is essential that we show these journalists the very best that Fiji has to offer, so they can go home and write fantastic articles that show-off our great destination,” says Mr Freer.

Applications are open for the position of Public Relations Manager, with the role of Public Relations Coordinator to be advertised in the coming weeks.  Interested parties are invited to contact Asinate Ledua, Human Resources Coordinator at Tourism Fiji, on 6722433 before March 3rd.
