Tourism Fiji’s Australian Regional Office has won the award for ‘Best Tourist Office – International’ at Australia’s premier tourism industry event of the year, the National Travel Industry Awards (NTIA) 2016.

The NTIA Gala Dinner, organised by the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA), was held at the Pavillion Darling Harbour in Sydney, on 16 July. The awards recognised the industry’s finest across 38 categories, from travel industry individuals to businesses, for their excellence and contribution to the travel industry.

Tourism Fiji’s Australia Regional Director, Ms Carlah Walton says the NTIA 2016 was the biggest award celebration the industry has witnessed and “our award is voted on by the travel industry retail and wholesale frontline selling agents in Australia.”

“The team from Tourism Fiji in Australia have worked tirelessly to raise Fiji’s profile as a preferred holiday destination in a highly competitive market.  To be finalists along with Tourism NZ, Dubai Tourism, Singapore and Hawaii is an absolute credit to Fiji but to win shows how hard the team has worked in Australia to forge industry relations and goodwill on behalf of all Fijians,” Ms Walton adds.

Tourism Fiji was also nominated as a finalist for NTIA’s Best Tourism Office – International award last year alongside against top international tourism offices based in Australia such as Canada, Hawaii, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Ireland, UAE, and the USA.

Tourism Fiji’s Australia Regional Office has over the past three years successfully launched its new brand in market, organised over 180 roadshows and events nationally, a record of 650 travel agents and PCO famil visits to Fiji, and coordinated six major television productions.

As a result of all of these marketing initiatives plus an increase in media exposure, both print and digital, there has been a year on year increase in tourists’ numbers from Australia, generating $229.6 million in tourism revenue for Fiji in 2015.
