The Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) lobby group has hailed the Northern Territory budget, which is sees as investing in tourism to create the jobs and economic growth the will underpin the Territory’s future.
TTF chief executive officer, Margy Osmond, has applauded the Giles Government for “recognising the need to grow jobs beyond the mining construction boom”.
“Looking beyond the mining construction boom, tourism is the industry that can deliver the growth in jobs and the economy that the Territory needs into the future.
“Other states and territories around the country should sit up and pay attention to how the Territory has grasped the value of tourism.
“Industry applauds the Giles Government for not only maintaining its investment in tourism marketing, but finding additional resources to support the important infrastructure development that will make the Territory more attractive to domestic and international visitors.
“We welcome the new Tourism Infrastructure Development Fund and its focus on regional, remote and indigenous experiences, which set the Territory apart from its competitors.
“The decision to invest in upgrading important natural assets, like the Litchfield National Park and Casuarina Coastal Reserve is also welcome, as is the decision to invest in sealing roads so that more visitors can access these unique regions.
“The Northern Territory is demonstrating that it understands the needs of industry and the value of investing in the visitor economy. We look forward to continuing to work with the Northern Territory to boost the opportunities for jobs and economic growth.”
