The Accommodation Association of Australia said the Government’s support for upgrading accommodation businesses, particularly in regional Tasmania, is welcome.

“The Hodgman Government has consistently placed a high priority on tourism policy since coming to office three years ago and the Tourism Accommodation Refurbishment Loan Scheme is another example of this,” said the Association’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Munro.

“Tourism in Tasmania continues to enjoy a strong resurgence and the new loan scheme will help enhance the visitor experience even further.”

Mr Munro said it will also assist traditional tourism accommodation businesses in the face of increasing competition from sharing economy providers.

“Staying in sharing economy properties is not for everyone – many visitors still appreciate service which is personal and of the highest level,” Mr Munro said.

“This initiative is also a sign the Tasmanian Government is working hard to strike an appropriate balance across all parts of the accommodation industry and other state/territory governments should consider following its lead.

“The Accommodation Association will actively help our Tasmanian-based members to gain a greater understanding of the scheme.”
