The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is scheduled to send officials to Hong Kong on a road show this March 14, with an aim to clarify the political situation in Thailand and persuade travelers to return to the kingdom.
Tourism and Sports Minister Somsak Pureesrisak made known that the ministry was collaborating with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and private tour agencies in organizing a road show to Hong Kong. Set to take place on March 14, the event will focus on promoting Thai tourism products and services as well as creating a correct understanding of the current situation in Thailand.

Mr Somsak claimed that the emergency decree in Bangkok had caused the tourist number to drop by 10,000 each day since its imposition. As no decisions had been made by the government when or whether the special law would be lifted, he said the ministry still needed to make clarifications to foreign travelers in order to regain their confidence and refresh the image of the country.

According to the plan, the road show will also seek to calm foreigners’ worries about transport inconveniences in Bangkok in the midst of political protests. They will be informed that the protesters had moved into Lumpini Park and most of the roads in the capital are now accessible.
