Today, ToursByLocals – the premiere online travel booking site for private tours – officially opened its doors to travel agents.

Using a travel agent-friendly system, agents can now access ToursByLocals’ international database of 1672 local guides in 126 countries worldwide to book unique private tours for their clients.

The company constantly recruits and refines their team, so that only the most insightful, talented and experienced guides are a part of the ToursByLocals network.

Now ToursByLocals is making it easy for travel agents to find and book top quality guides for their clients’ private tours. By registering as an agent on, travel professionals gain access to an agent-specific online booking system that streamlines communication, manages multiple client bookings and tracks commissions.

“According to Virtuoso’s 2013 Luxe Report, ‘seeking authentic experiences in new destinations’ is the top reason travelers go on vacation,” says Sara Cooke, ToursByLocals Director of Communications. “We make it possible for agents to find and book these types of unique local experiences for their clients.”

The nearly 10,000 tours on the site range from classic city walking tours to truly out-of-the-box shore excursions. Travelers can learn to bake traditional apple strudel in a Viennese home, tango with the locals in Buenos Aires, or attend a private classical piano concert in Budapest – not to mention skipping the line at some of the world’s most popular attractions.

“What makes ToursByLocals stand out from other private tour services is that the customer gets to pick the person who delivers their tour,” explains Cooke. “For instance, if the client is a solo female traveler wanting to visit the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, her agent can choose a female guide with a background in art history. This way the traveler gains an extra level of comfort knowing exactly who she will be spending her day with.”

Using ToursByLocals, agents can find the perfect tour guide to suit their clients’ interests and needs. ToursByLocals looks forward to developing strong partnerships with travel agents in the months to come.

Founded by Canadians Paul Melhus and Dave Vincent in November 2008, ToursByLocals connects travelers with independent local guides in 126 countries worldwide. ToursByLocals guides offer private city tours, shore excursions, art and history-focused tours, culinary tours and outdoor adventures on six continents. Every tour is private and itineraries are flexible and customizable to the traveler’s needs.

With over 1670 experienced guides in large and small cities, major and minor ports of call and remote destinations, travelers can always find a local expert to meet their needs, whether they’re traveling to St. Petersburg, Dubai, Rio de Janeiro or anywhere in between.
