There is change in the air at Rydges Hotels and Resorts in Cairns with news this week that both Esplanade and Tradewinds properties on the waterfront Esplanade will undertake significant refurbishment programs in coming months.

Following hot on the heels of the opening of its new event and meeting place, Fire and Ice Terrace, Rydges Esplanade will begin an 18 month refurbishment to accommodation on seven of its 12 floors including the addition of six new family rooms.

According to the area director of sales and marketing for Rydges Hotels and Resorts in Cairns, Natalie Dean, the refurbishment incorporating the upgrade of all furnishings, fittings and decor will commence in October 2014 with the first of the rejuvenated rooms coming on line by November, 2014.

While its all about a focus on upgrading the accommodation at Rydges Esplanade, the changes at Rydges Tradewinds will address the service of food and beverage and see the introduction of a new venue in Drift on the Esplanade.

Situated overlooking the waterfront, Drift on the Esplanade will provide a chic, modern and laid-back vibe for guests wanting to enjoy something great to eat, drink and share.

Ms Dean says that while the finished product with be very different to what is currently on offer, she anticipates minimal disruption to guests with all services remaining available to guests in a temporary on-site restaurant between 14 and 29 August, 2014.

“Building works that involve noise will only take place between 10 am and 5pm for the proposed two week period,” she said.

Drift on the Esplanade promises light, bright and contemporary surrounds that capture the laid back spirit of Cairns’ waterfront.  The design, while in keeping with the tropical climate, will comprise a modern blend of timber and textures conjuring drift wood on the beach, the beauty of tall trees, rainforest timbers and log cabins.
