Travel agent strips flight attendants down to their hats

A row over sexism in advertising has erupted after a travel agency released the following two videos, showing male and female flight attendants (each video concentrates on one gender) stripped down to little more than their uniform hats, scarves and ties.

The video for Chocotravel, a travel agency based in Kazakhstan but represented in Moscow and elsewhere, drew heated reactions online.

“I’m sick of this sh*t,” one female commenter fumed on Facebook. Others were similarly scathing.

Russian news site RT.com quoted Chocotravel director Nikolay Mazentsev saying the video wasn’t meant to offend anyone.

Scarves and hats

“The video is bold and shocking, but we did not want to hurt anyone’s feelings, and regret it if it happened,” Mazentsev proclaimed on Facebook. “The advertisement shows exactly as much as you can see on any beach or in the pool. You do not attack girls in short skirts and people in swimsuits?”

This is your captain speaking

To defuse the issue, Chocotravel posted a male-only video the following day.

This move did not silence critics. They asked why women were all depicted as flight attendants while men were shown as pilots. More sexism!
