Travel complaints surface in latest NSW compilation

Consumers are unhappy with the way travel is treated, with a prominent airline and travel agency making an appearance on the latest NSW Fair Trading Complaints Register.

NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Rose Webb said Qantas received 10 complaints and Flight Centre 13 in the September register, relating to tourism or travel and loyalty programs.

“The September Complaints Register shows that consumers are dissatisfied with their chosen service provider, after investing time and money on their travel plans,” Webb said.

The travel industry traders were joined by a wide variety of businesses who received 10 or more complaints September, including suppliers of white goods, event and ticket retailers and real estate agencies.

“The Complaints Register is a tool for consumers and a reminder that they have rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Similarly, it should provide an incentive for businesses to deliver better customer service while educating the wider organisation of their responsibilities to consumers,” Webb said.

Sydney-based business JP Office Workstations reappeared on this month’s list after receiving 12 complaints from consumers dissatisfied in their dealings with the trader.

“Businesses that appear on the list are assigned a case manager from Fair Trading to address and improve their complaint management and customer service. We have a responsibility to ensure businesses are treating their customers lawfully,” Ms Webb said.

A total of 297 complaints make up this month’s register, which are available for the public to view at
