Independent travel company, Travel Counsellors has announced it has joined Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Australasia, part of a global deal with the world’s largest cruise industry body, enabling the company to offer membership to its Travel Counsellor agents.

The global membership, will see the company’s agents benefit from the wide range of training and events available to CLIA members worldwide, with Travel Counsellors providing this to their agents at no extra cost to them.

The membership in Australia includes access to a wide range of cruise industry training and recognition through CLIA’s accreditation program. Travel Counsellors will also have the opportunity to attend a range of global cruise industry events and conferences, as well as receiving all the latest cruise news and updates.

“As we continue to focus on the cruise support, tools and training we give to our agents we felt joining CLIA was a great way to further enhance this offering,” comments Group Commercial Director Kirsten Hughes. “This membership gives even more credibility to our agents when marketing themselves to potential cruise customers and gives them access to some excellent training programmes, events and products, with CLIA boasting an impressive 60 plus cruise line members globally. It’s also an effective tool for our Travel Counsellors who may be new to cruise, which again is complemented by the in-house training and support we offer.”

The news comes after the company launched a host of new cruise marketing and training tools for its agents as part of National Cruise Week last month, including its first ever dedicated 20 page cruise brochure. Travel Counsellor agents in Australia also have access to training webcasts, consumer product videos, plus a range of cruise e-cards and hot offers, designed to give customers an insight into the extensive range of cruising options available to book through Travel Counsellors. This has resulted in Travel Counsellors seeing an impressive 50% increase in cruise sales throughout September compared to the previous year.

Commenting on the partnership CLIA Australasia General Manager Brett Jardine said: “The Australian cruise industry is ranked number one in the world for market growth and penetration, and therefore I’m delighted that Travel Counsellors have become members and are investing in such a great industry. They have a great reputation in the travel industry and we are excited to be working with them and their agents, who will now have access to our highly respected industry training and events.”
