unnamed (10)More than 20 Travel Counsellors and head office staff from across Australia competed in the Mother’s Day Classic 4km and 8km running and walking events last Sunday, in an effort to help raise more than $4 million for Breast Cancer Research.

Travel Counsellors had participants in Sydney, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Brisbane, with each city having a sizable support crew equipped with well-deserved refreshments waiting for the runners at the finish line. Many of the Travel Counsellors had their partners, families and friends participating alongside them on the day.

General Manager Tracy Parkinson comments; “Everyone got so involved, even though we were in different states – we all felt we were in it together. At Travel Counsellors we have a very unique family ethos and strong sense of camaraderie, which was really reflected in the effort and support shown by our Travel Counsellors and staff at the event.”

As the largest charity fundraising event in Australia, Mother’s Day Classic (MDC) is the annual event for participants and volunteers to show their commitment and support for breast cancer research. Held on Sunday 11 May in all capital cities, major metropolitans, and over 80 regional areas, MDC raises funds for breast cancer research, supports and remembers those touched by breast cancer and starts Mother’s Day in a fun and healthy way. Travel Counsellors, which has over 110 agents across Australia all running their own home-based travel businesses, support and encourages those that are part of the company to take part in these type of events, which includes plans to take part in the iconic Melbourne Marathon Events in October.

Tracy adds: “There are certainly some sore legs around the country, but it is very rewarding to raise funds and help such a worthwhile cause. We look forward to coming together with our Travel Counsellors and staff at future events such as these.”
