Viking Cruises have launched new itineraries for ocean cruising including the fifteen day “Into the Midnight Sun” itinerary which sails from Bergen to London.

Follow the path of Vikings from Nordic splendour to Scottish wonder, and embrace an unparalleled exploration in the wake of great unnamed (2)explorers, from the ancient merchant streets of Bergen to tiny hamlets tucked into magnificent and pristine fjords, from the far-north beauty of North Cape to the remote outposts of Scotland’s Shetland and Orkney Islands.

Begin your journey in Bergen, the inspiration for the Viking Sagas, where majestic mountains, fjords, and glaciers will encircle you. With your ship berthed next to the UNESCO-listed Bryggen wharf, you can easily stroll along its waterfront and soak in the breathtaking natural scenery. On your included tour, you’ll wander narrow cobbled lanes lined with beautiful 18th-century wooden houses and visit the Hanseatic Museum, which has interiors from the 18th and 19th centuries. For those in search of local culinary delights, be sure to take a trip to the peak of Mt. Ulriken to savor an “Ulriken Bun,” a cinnamon pastry, whilst taking in the breathtaking views at the mountaintop restaurant.

unnamed (3)Discover Kristiansund, an old Viking settlement defended against the Danes by Håkon the Good in 955. This colorful city spreads out over three island and on an included walking tour, you can stroll along Vanndamman Lake in one of the city’s green parks, then view the surrounding fjords from Varden, a 250-foot overlook.

Admire the rugged beauty of the Shetland Islands (Lerwick), one of Scotland’s remote island outposts. Discover a rich patchwork of rustic farmland, Viking history and Neolithic treasures, with small ponies that can be seen throughout the islands. You’ll explore the main island’s southern reaches on an included tour, stopping at the limestone hamlet of Fladdabister, the crofting town of Aithsetter and a 2,000-year-old castle. Or, visit the remarkable archaeological site of Jarlshof instead, stunning evidence of a thriving Viking presence.
