Travelers Have Spoken: Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest Win Big at Freddie Awards

Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) took home a combined 10 awards last night, at the 29th annual Freddie Awards, including Promotion of the Year for “Day 1 Linking of Accounts,” and Program of the Year. Marriott International’s trio of loyalty programs, Marriott Rewards which includes The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and SPG have won an astounding 60+ Freddie Awards combined over the past ten years.

This year, Marriott Rewards won four awards, including Program of the Year, Americas, for a record 10th consecutive year. The other awards included:

  • Best Hotel Redemption Ability, Americas
  • Best Hotel Customer Service, Americas
  • Best Hotel Elite Program, Americas

SPG won six awards, including;

  • Hotel Program of the Year, Middle East & Asia/Oceania
  • Best Hotel Promotion, Middle East & Asia/Oceania
  • Best Hotel Redemption Ability, Middle East & Asia/Oceania
  • Best Hotel Customer Service, Middle East & Asia/Oceania
  • Best Hotel Elite Program, Europe /Africa
  • Best Hotel Elite Program, Middle East & Asia/Oceania

The Freddie Awards are the most prestigious member-generated awards in the travel loyalty industry, recognizing excellence in frequent travel programs annually. This year, 25 million ballots were cast across all categories.

“Winning these Freddie Awards is especially meaningful as they are voted on by members,” said David Flueck, Senior Vice President of Loyalty, Marriott International.  “As we look to bring the best of all programs together, we will continue to build upon our award winning legacy with our members at the center of everything that we do.”

In the past year since the 2016 Freddie’s, Marriott International completed its acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. offering members across all loyalty programs, on day one the ability to link their accounts to have their member status matched, and enable them to transfer points between the programs for travel and exclusive experiences. Other advancements from the two loyalty programs include:

  • The expansion of SPG Moments and the Marriott Rewards Experiences Marketplace which offered once-in-a-lifetime culinary, music, sports and lifestyle experiences.
  • This past March, Marriott announced an investment in PlacePass, a pioneering provider of local travel experiences, offering all guests an opportunity to personalize their trips with authentic excursions.
  • In February 2016, Marriott Rewards revealed a redesigned mobile app, to meet the needs of modern world travelers with Mobile Check-in and Checkout, Mobile Requests, the introduction of Mobile Key and more.
  • In the last year, SPG announced the next generation of SPG Keyless, expanding keyless entry to more properties and multiple guests.
