Two celebrated experts in the dark art of persuasion will pass on some valuable tips to Travellers Choice agents in November when the national retail group’s members meet in Hobart for their 2013 Annual Shareholders’ Conference.

In a nod to its host city’s nautical flavour, the theme of this year’s conference (29 November – 1 December) is ‘Hoist Your Sales’, with keynote speakers Chris Helder and David Staughton challenging members to do just that.

Helder, a certified practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, claims that in a world dominated by digital communications, it is more important than ever before for agents to ensure face-to-face interactions with customers are highly effective.

Drawing on a wide range of research, his presentation will help Travellers Choice members hone such skills as reading body language, making stronger connections and using the right techniques to convince others to take action.

Staughton is a scientist, award-winning businessman and self-styled “sales magician” with a special interest in helping retailers drive sales during off-peak periods or moving less-popular products. His mantra is “it’s easy to sell what’s popular but it’s more profitable to sell what’s not”.

Travellers Choice Chief Executive Christian Hunter says both presenters will impart practical advice that members can use to deliver long-term sustainable results.

“The aim of this year’s program is to motivate members into reaching new sales heights by pushing them out of their comfort zones and encouraging them to take a fresh look at the way they engage with prospective and existing customers,” says Hunter. “We have been lucky enough to secure two business experts with a talent for doing just that.”

The 2013 Annual Shareholders’ Conference takes place at The Hotel Grand Chancellor, which overlooks the City of Sails’ historic Constitution Dock and is just a short walk from Salamanca Market and Battery Point. More than 200 delegates from across Australia are expected to attend the event, which will include the group’s Annual General Meeting and the presentation of its Gold, Silver and Bronze Choice Awards.
