Travellers Choice unveils a smart conversation starter

Research has proven that a problem shared is indeed a problem halved, which is why Travellers Choice travel agents are embracing a new online “forum” that allows them to pose questions, provide advice, share information or just engage in some virtual networking.

The live online community – made accessible this week to all Travellers Choice members through the group’s Members Extranet (MEX) – is now facilitating conversations covering a broad range of issues relevant to all agents.

In order to help users find specific information or online discussions, the forum is divided into four categories – Travel Products, Sales and Marketing, Travel Agency Operations and Corporate Services – each of which features a number of sub topics. Some subjects, such as staff management and recruitments, are restricted for access by agency owners or managers.

Travellers Choice Digital Marketing Coordinator Lucy Zupan says members can also search for topics by entering keywords.

“If nothing comes up, or if what does come up is not relevant, then it’s time for them to ask the question,” says Zupan.

“Then, rather than having to return to the Forum and monitor whether or not their question has been answered, they can simply wait for an email to alert them of new activity in relation to their post.”

Debi Kitt, owner of Boomerang Travel Centre in Kyabram, Victoria, says the new forum allowed “multiple brains to approach challenges from lots of different angles”.

“Travellers Choice’s agents in Victoria and Tasmania have in the past shared information through Facebook, but we can now take part in discussions that involve colleagues from across our entire national network,” says Kitt.

“I particularly like the fact that I can confidentially share ideas on staffing issues with other managers, and that I can now exchange tips with other members on the best ways to book preferred suppliers or tackle local marketing initiatives.”

Simone Kelly from Melbourne’s Travel Bound and Cruise says the forum provides an invaluable way for members to overcome the broad range of challenges regularly encountered by agents and managers.

“If I’m ever stuck with something I can now call on my fellow members for a different perspective and feedback. It’s a service from which we will all greatly benefit.”
