If you ask people what their travel list looks like, chances are Australia is on there somewhere. That’s because it is known for being a beautifully unique destination to get away from your everyday stress. You’ll see and hear things you won’t see anywhere else.

Australia, being the sixth largest country in the world, has something for travellers to do every day. You won’t ever have to worry about being bored or wondering what to do. Just walk outside of your hotel and head down the next block. You’re bound to find something intriguing and entertaining.

It’s important to remember a few things while travelling not just to the land down under, but anywhere in the world. You are going to a different country, and even a different continent. So, before you begin, we have six things to consider when travelling to Australia.

Plan Accordingly

If you plan to go to Australia without an idea of what you want to do, prepare to become overwhelmed very quickly. Because Australia has so much to offer visitors and citizens alike, arriving without a plan will likely result in missing out on amazing attractions and a whole lot of confusion.

Another reason to have a general itinerary for your trip is that it takes quite a bit of time to travel around the country. Road trips can take days from one destination to another. Even the flights are several hours long. Without a plan, you could spend most of your trip travelling and not enjoying the country.

Don’t Forget About Canberra

Sydney and Melbourne are popular destinations in Australia. That doesn’t mean other cities have much to offer visitors as well. Canberra is a place that should be at the top of your list to visit. Being the capital of Australia, the bustling city is diverse, cultural, artistic, and highly educated.

Spend a few days in the city. You can stay at one of the many beautiful hotels in Canberra, and get treated to a relaxing vacation. There is the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve where you can view a variety of wildlife that you won’t find anywhere else. The Australia War Memorial is a popular spot to visit and learn about Australia’s efforts in historical wars. Canberra also has Nasa’s Deep Space Network for all those interested in science and space.

Enjoy the Local Taste

It can be scary trying out local foods and beverages. However, in Australia, it’s a must. The country has some of the best local wines, liquors, and microbreweries that you won’t find anywhere else. Try out some of their economically friendly beer to see how they’re changing the distillery industry.

Prepare for the Hot Sun

Australia has a lot of sun, and it’s sweltering. What you may think is hot back home, that is likely an average day down under. The sun is powerful, so you’ll burn a lot quicker there than you would anywhere else in the world.

Make sure you stay covered up and keep yourself hydrated. Wear sunblock all of the time if your skin is exposed to the heat. You wouldn’t want to wreck your awesome vacation due to heat stroke or a bad sunburn.

You’ll Pay

Australia is expensive. If you don’t realize that, you’ll be in for a shocking surprise when touring around. From accommodations to transportation and eating out, you’ll spend more money than you likely planned for, so be prepared.

Learn Their Language

Although you speak English there, it’s a different kind of English than what you hear in other parts of the world. Before leaving, spend some time learning the different slang words that the locals use. You may find yourself saying the wrong thing as it means something in Australia than it does back home.
