Travelodge Taken Over By Minions Ahead Of Despicable Me 3 Release

May 29, 2017 Hotel News No Comments Email Email

Travelodge Hotels is teaming up with Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures to celebrate one of the most anticipated family feel-good releases this winter, Despicable Me 3.

The partnership will drive a number of creative marketing activities, which will highlight the brand’s appeal to families.

The undisputed stars of the movie franchise, the Minions, will take over Travelodge Sydney with a huge, five storey high projection of one of the lovable, yellow characters being cast on the front of the hotel. The giant Minion will loom over Sydney on Friday and Saturday nights from 26 May to 10 June.

It’s not just the outside of Travelodge Sydney where Minions are making their presence known: a family room at the hotel is getting a total Minion-make-over from 8 to 22 June, complete with themed bedding, toothbrushes and toiletries. Even the walls are adorned with the movie characters. Guests will also be treated to a plush Minion to take home plus a hamper including bespoke Minion macarons from Zumbo.

The partnership will also see travellers receive 20 per cent off if they book a night at any Travelodge Hotel on a Tuesday, as part of the hotels’ wider ‘Travelodge Chooseday’ offer, available now until the 20th June. Families taking up the deal will also receive a Minion pack, which includes a family pass to Despicable Me 3, a sticker sheet, a toy and the famous Minion goggles.

Selected Travelodge hotels will also host a ‘Find My Minion’ Treasure Hunt where the film’s resident mad scientist, Gru, has instructed the kids to find his lost Minions in their hotel rooms. These recovered Minions can be taken to reception to redeem a Despicable Me 3 prize pack including a family movie pass and Blu-ray.

Despicable Me 3 sees Gru face off against Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who has grown up to become obsessed with the character that he played in the ’80s. Gru also gets into some sibling rivalry when he meets his long-lost charming, cheerful, and more successful twin brother Dru who wants to team up with him for one last criminal heist to steal the diamond that Bratt has stolen. The film will be out in cinemas from 15th June.
