One of the things any visitor to Vietnam quickly realizes about Vietnam and especially its commercial hub Ho Chi Minh City, is the amazing and often highly enthusiastic welcome of its people.
That welcome and enthusiasm was portrayed this week in true Vietnamese style when Ms Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism welcomed delegates and media to ITE HCMC 2016 at Ho Chi Minh City’s classic and world famous, Rex Hotel.
I spoke with Ms Anh Hoa and she told me that with Ho Chi Minh City the economic center of the country and Hanoi the government centre, tourists often choose to Ho Chi Minh City as their first location to visit Vietnam as it is well linked to other provinces or in and other countries in Southeast Asia, so the city is the perfect great location for ITE HCMC 2016.
She said that international tourist arrivals had increased steadily over recent years, with an annual average of 4 million visitors, with in 2015 4.6 million passengers and the number of tourists to the city in the first 6 months of 2016 was more than 2.4 million an increase of 12.2% over the same period last year.
She also added that the top three markets are the USA 211,221, South Korea 202,989, but with China at 202,223, that key market was up 58.8% over the previous year.
