egtmedia59Qantas and the Tasmanian government have signed a AUD 4.35 million partnership deal to promote the state’s tourism destinations at home and abroad.

The new agreement will help increase visitor numbers and tourism spending across the state, according to the Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF).

TTF Chief Executive Ken Morrison said this is great news for the state’s visitor economy. 250x250TICBanner

“Tasmania has posted two quarters of record breaking visitor numbers and this agreement will help the trend continue, promoting the state to potential visitors across Australia and overseas,” Morrison said.

“For the year ending June 2013, Tasmania welcomed 961,600 visitors, up 12% from the previous year. Visitor expenditure also increased by 10% to AUD 1.5 billion.

“As an island state, regular and affordable aviation access is critical for the success of Tasmania’s tourism industry.

“Under the new agreement Tasmania will be promoted in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Singapore and mainland Australia, to increase awareness and visitor numbers.

“It will also engage a diverse range of cooperative activities including tactical campaigns, airline seats for media and trade, direct marketing activities, online content, and in-flight video.”

“Morrison said agreements like this are essential for the tourism industry.

“TTF’s National Tourism Business Count & Employment Atlas [http://www.ttf.org.au/Content/atlas.aspx] shows that Tasmania is the nation’s most tourism dependent state, directly employing 15,200 people and supporting 6,232 businesses,” Morrison said.

“The Tasmanian visitor economy contributes AUD 2 billion in gross state product and agreements like this will help that contribution grow into the future.”
