TV Broadcaster and best-selling author of The Edible Balcony Indira Naidoo, will be taking an exclusive 6 day/5 night tour of the inspiring rooftop farms of New York in May this year.

The tour – for an intimate group of 12 people – will explore New York’s hidden ‘sky farms’ in Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island.

Some of these farms – such as the Brooklyn Grange Navy Yard Farm in Brooklyn – are 2 ½ acres large and even have honey-producing hives and chicken runs.

And sitting on buildings on the edge of the East River, these farms also have spectacular views of the breath-taking Manhattan skyline.

The rooftop farm tours will include expert workshops with rooftop farmers, and give participants a chance to get their hands dirty, plant some seeds, extract some honey or collect some eggs.

Participants will then enjoy gourmet lunches using the farm-fresh produce matched to local organic wines.

The tour will also include visits to the famous elevated Highline garden, and Chelsea and Union Square Farmers markets for delicious food tastings.

Accommodation will be luxurious – 4 nights at the award-winning boutique hotels The Wythe in Brooklyn and 1 night at the hip Crosby St Hotel in SoHo.

And evenings will be free to do some shopping or catch a Broadway show.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for foodies, gardeners, or those who just want to experience a fascinating – usually hidden – side of New York life,” enthuses Indira.

Indira Naidoo is one of Australia’s leading urban food experts. Her gardening cookbook – The Edible Balcony – has sold 18,000 copies and been reprinted 4 times. Last September she launched her book in New York during a glittering cocktail party at the Australian Consulate on Fifth Avenue. Indira has visited and worked in New York many times during the last 15 years and spent last year studying and visiting the roof top farms of New York as part of her Churchill Fellowship application.

Indira’s New York tour will run from May 26th – May 31st 2014.

Costs are AUD$5,990 (twin) and AUD$7,090 (Single). Flights are not included but can be arranged separately. Bookings close soon.
