APT and Travelmarvel have each announced they are to expand their operations in Asia with the addition of two new riverships in Burma (Myanmar), one for each brand.

Keel Laying - APT and Travelmarvel BurmaAPT’s new ship – the RV Samatha (named to reflect the Buddhist practice of calming the mind to achieve peace and tranquility) – is a high end luxury vessel featuring 30 suites ranging from 27 sqm to 48.7 sqm, many of which will feature twin balconies. In addition the new rivership will offer a swimming pool, air conditioned lounge area on the sundeck, an observation deck, two restaurants – a main restaurant and a private fine dining restaurant, and a spa and massage facility.

Travelmarvel’s new ship, the RV Princess Panhwar (named after the famous Queen of Vishnu) will be a 36-suite vessel offering premium four star river cruising. Highlights include outside balconies on many of the cabins, which range from 26sqm to 42.5sqm in size, an air conditioned lounge area on the sun deck, a main restaurant and a spa and massage facility.

The riverships are being built in Yangon in partnership between APT, Travelmarvel and the Maing Fong Company. APT’s General Manager Product and Operations, David Courage, recently attended the keel laying ceremony for both ships, helping to weld the first steel on the hull. The special ceremony, which took place in Yangon, included a traditional blessing by monks and a special celebratory feast.

Commenting on the new riverships, Debra Fox, APT’s General Manager for Sales and Marketing said, “We already offer river cruising in Burma for APT guests aboard the AmaPura and although this is our first year, sales have already exceeded expectations. Burma is clearly a place that our guests from Australia, New Zealand and the UK are keen to explore and so to build and introduce our very own river cruise ships for both of our respective APT and Travelmarvel brands in this emerging destination is incredibly exciting.”

Both riverships will operate 15-day itineraries between Yangon and Mandalay from January 2016. Travel Agents can pre-register clients for cruises on each of the new vessels with a $250 per person fully refundable deposit.
