U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow issued the following statement regarding news the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s approval of S. 1347, the “Conference Accountability Act of 2014’’.

“We thank Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) for raising significant concerns about the potential impacts of S. 1347, and support his request that additional changes be made before the bill moves forward.

“The ability of federal workers to travel and participate in conferences and meetings is essential to conducting the business of the United States government. These face-to-face meetings help to facilitate effective information sharing, employee training and development, taxpayer services, and collaboration between agencies and private-sector partners in a way that cannot be accomplished by other means. Putting unrealistic limits on government participation in meetings and conferences can actually cost taxpayers more in the end, so this issue should not be taken lightly.”
