The Australian Services Union (ASU), which calls itself “the union for travel consultants” is appealing for consultants to back it as it prepares to negotiate with Flight Centre.

“The ASU is made up of travel industry professionals just like you,” the ASU says.

“Our members work in Flight Centre, Student Flights, Helloworld, QBT, Webjet, Qantas Airways, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, and a host of other travel companies.”

The ASU has told its members in Flight Centre: “Flight Centre wants to make changes to your wages and conditions through a new Flight Centre Agreement. The agreement would include things like base pay, rosters, sick leave and annual leave.http://mekongtourismforum.org/index.php/2018/05/09/mtf-2018-web-banners/

“It’s really exciting – and a little scary.”

The union then asks:

  • Is it time for a better base rate?
  • What changes do you want to your working hours?
  • How could your working day be made better?

“This is your chance to put forward the changes you want to see at Flight Centre.”

The ASU says it will be part of the negotiations of the new Flight Centre Agreement on behalf of its members, “representing the changes members want to see”.

It says it employs a team of experts around the country “to give advice about your rights at work, support and represent you if you have a workplace issue and of course negotiate with employers for new agreements”. It then supplies a list of representatives, state by state.

“If you want to be represented by the ASU now is the time to join to become a member,” it says. “That way you get access to our team of experts who are there to answer your questions and make sure you get the best deal in the new Agreement.

“Union members have a legal right to be represented by a union bargaining expert in the bargaining meetings with your employer.”

The union concludes by saying it’s about to send out a confidential survey for members to complete.
