Unique winter holiday destination for you and your pup

Melbourne-based photographer Kerry Martin has turned the picturesque town of Dinner Plain in the Victorian snowfields into a unique holiday and photographic destination for families wanting some special one-of-a-kind pictures of their dogs this winter.

image002Kerry was initially drawn to the town in the search of snow for her own Japanese Spitz breed dog as she wanted him to experience the snow first-hand. She quickly realised the stunning backdrop was perfect for some “snow dog” pictures and is now hosting families who want her to create similar images.

“It’s not just the arctic breeds who love the snow. All of those I’ve photographed have loved the snow play because it’s so new and different,” she said.

“It’s perfect for families to bring their dogs up in winter to make sure they get out and have some exercise and the dogs get a rush of freedom racing about, burying their nose, chasing snowballs and otherwise exploring this new environment.”

image003“With Australia typically being seen as a sun and beach country, the snow provides a unique location, plus it is so pure and stunning, the dogs really stand out.”

Kerry said the organised photo-shoots also provided an opportunity for families to travel with their dogs to an animal and family friendly destination.

“It’s something incredibly special to travel on a holiday with your dog but to have an amazing destination and beautiful photography makes it a once in a lifetime event for many dogs and their loving families, whether you’re skiing, hiking or just enjoying the beautiful scenery,” she said.

image004“And the resulting photography is so beautiful; it’s a gorgeous dog or family portrait combined with an extraordinary Australian landscape.

“There’s nothing quite as entertaining as watching your dog bowl down a snowman or watching them chase a snowball only to find it has disappeared on landing. Travel is wonderful quality time with your family and friends and there is no reason why it can’t be the same with your dog.”

Kerry is organising trips to Dinner Plain for the whole of August. To book a photo-shoot, a weekend getaway with her contact Kerry via her website
