Norfolk Island Tourism has appointed acclaimed comedian, Urzila Carlson as Tourism Ambassador for the popular short-haul holiday destination for Australians and New Zealanders.

Urzila joins respected Australian television journalist Ray Martin – Norfolk Island’s first Tourism Ambassador – in promoting the island as part of the ongoing and successful long-standing campaign, “There’s More to Norfolk Island” which continues to generate significant interest in the island.  Urzila is a multi-award-winning stand-up comedian consistently appearing on stage and television in Australia and New Zealand and performing solo to sold out audiences throughout both countries.

She has been seen on top-rating show, Have you Been Paying Attention? on Australia’s Network Ten, with Urzila now appearing as a regular panellist on a New Zealand version of the show airing on TVNZ.

Urzila has appeared to packed houses at Perth, Sydney and Adelaide Comedy Festivals and for the past five years at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival where, this year, Urzila won the prestigious 2019 People’s Choice Award.

In August 2019, Urzila was headline act when the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow headed to Norfolk Island for a one-off evening performance to a 400-plus audience. The island is already locked in with the Festival organisers to be included again on the 2020 Festival Roadshow calendar.

Urzila’s commitment as Tourism Ambassador will include a spokesperson role promoting all the wonderful attributes of Norfolk Island in Australia and New Zealand, in media interviews, appearances at special island events, promotional video shoots and via her significant social media network.

Norfolk Island Regional Council Interim General Manager, Bruce Taylor said the island was delighted to be working with Urzila on a number of exciting projects being proposed over the next 12 months.

“Urzila is terrific and will offer so much energy and enthusiasm to this role and be a wonderful representative for the island,” said Mr Taylor.

“She was brilliant during the Festival Roadshow and got on so well with everyone she met on island during her visit.”

Urzila is looking forward to sharing “so many of my experiences on Norfolk Island” in Australia and New Zealand.

“I had a wonderful time in August and can’t wait to get back,” she said.

“The island has so much to offer with the fantastic food and wines and so many fun activities and I will be looking to improve my golf swing on one of the most beautiful courses,” Urzila said.
