Seoul has been voted the “Best International Business Meetings Destination” and “Best MICE City” of 2015 by readers of two major US meetings and travel magazines – Business Traveler and Global Traveler, respectively.
It marks Seoul’s fourth consecutive win in the category for Business Traveler’s annual awards since the introduction of the category in 2012. This year’s Business Traveler Best in Business Travel awards went to 34 recipients in 48 categories. In addition to Seoul’s win as the top business events destination, Asiana Airlines was voted both “Best Overall Inflight Experience in the World” and “Airline with Best Overall Customer Service”, while Incheon International Airport was declared “Airport with Best Duty-Free Shopping”
Seoul was also well-represented in Global Traveler’s 12th GT Tested Reader Survey awards, which spanned more than 80 travel-related categories. Along with Seoul’s declaration as “Best MICE City”, Asiana Airlines once again featured prominently, winning in both the categories of “Best Airline for Onboard Service” and “Best Airline for Flight Attendants”, while Incheon International Airport was distinguished as the “Best Airport in the World”. The city’s accommodation sector also made a strong impression, with the Lotte Hotel Seoul receiving both the “Best MICE Hotel” and “Best Hotel in South Korea” awards.
“These awards are high praise indeed for Seoul, and reflect the great confidence the international community has in us to provide exemplary services in business events and travel,” said Maureen O’Crowley, Executive Director of the Seoul Tourism Organization. “Rest assured we will continue to work hard to provide the quality they have come to expect of Seoul, ensuring it will always be “Your Complete Convention City”, she added.
Asiana and the Lotte Hotel Seoul are also notable for being members of the Seoul MICE Alliance, comprised of the city’s top business events providers. Incheon International Airport is the nation’s main gateway to Seoul and has also consistently won in multiple categories of the Airport Service Quality Awards (ASQ) since 2005.
For Seoul, the awards come at a time of continued growth and expansion of the city’s infrastructure and services for business events. The arrival of new hotel brands such as the Four Seasons, along with rechargeable transportation cards and customized city tours for event participants, are among the many ways in which the city has become even more competitive in the past year. Seoul also continues to maintain its place in the top five of convention cities according to the latest UIA findings.
Of the eleven worldwide editions of UK-based publication Business Traveller, the US edition has the largest circulation of 175,000 – which constitutes about 37.4% of Business Traveler’s total circulation of 467,604. The vast majority of its readers are executive level decision makers, who play key roles in the choosing of destinations for incentive meetings, corporate meetings, and even large international congresses. Global Traveler, meanwhile, targeted at frequent business and luxury travelers, has a circulation of over 110,000 readers.
The Seoul Convention Bureau would like to thank both magazines and their readers for their personal votes of confidence in Korea’s capital as a meetings and travel destination.
