Active Europe specialist, UTracks, has launched a three-day “Northern Lights” winter walking experience in Iceland for travellers “short on time but big on adventure”.

The guided walking itinerary, exploring Iceland’s Golden Circle, will run between November and March, when the days are short and the nights are full of the possibility of viewing the extraordinary coloured lights streaming through the northern sky.

“Iceland Northern Lights” departs from the capital Reykjavík and is packed full of adventures, with two to four hours walking each day amongst some of the country’s most dramatic landscapes.

From geysers, majestic waterfalls, and the fault lines of Thingvellir National Park to Glacier Lagoon, complete with its huge icebergs and sunbathing seals, and exploring an ice cave in the heart of Vatnajökull, this itinerary offers the ultimate Iceland winter experience in just three days.

It is perfect for those on a short layover flying to or from Europe or the time poor.

The two nights are based in comfortable hotel accommodation in the countryside, away from the city lights, and in one of the most accessible places to view the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights.

The final day includes walking on the black southern beaches and hiking with crampons on the Sólheimajökull glacier.

Trip highlights:

  • Discovering on foot the geology, history, geysers and waterfalls of Iceland’s ‘Golden Circle’
  • Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón) and Diamond Beach with its stranded icebergs
  • Exploring an ice cave
  • Hunting for the northern lights in the evening whilst based in a comfortable countryside hotel
  • Hiking with crampons on the Sólheimajökull glacier

Iceland Northern Lights is priced from AU$1,690 per person (twin share) and includes accommodation, an experienced walking guide, internal transfers in a minibus, glacial walk and ice cave and pre and post tour pickups from your hotel in Reykjavík. Departures from Reykjavík between 8 November 2018 to 28 March 2019.
