There is a hundred mile Cataract Canyon motorized raft trip on the Colorado River. Plan to be in Moab on Saturday or Wednesday to embark on a long 1-day whitewater raft trip into Canyonlands National Park. What better use of long daylight hours in the desert in summer? Leave the NAVTEC Expeditions office in Moab at 7:00 a.m. to return by 7:45 p.m. by charter flight or 9:30 p.m. by ground transportation with the crew.

What do you get?

  • One hundred miles of the Colorado River from Moab to finish on Lake Powell.
  • Twenty six Grand Canyon style rapids. And you avoid the camping required to do a Grand Canyon trip.
  • Lunch and snacks.
  • Licensed experience guide, operating a state-of-the-art Whitewater RHIB (rigid hull inflatable boat) .

The $375 price tag may seem steep; however, a one day trip will fit every vacation calendar with a little planning. It is tremendously cheaper than a two day Grand Canyon, Whitmore to Grand Canyon (52 river mile) trip that will take 4 days for $1769. Days 1 and 4 of this Grand Canyon itinerary involve transportation from Las Vegas and back.

So it is hot and the river, the Colorado River, is a smart choice for Moab in the summer months of July and August. Westwater Canyon located on the Colorado-Utah state boundary serves up 11 rapids during a 17 mile trip. Only three companies depart a day and are restricted to 25 passengers. For the most 1 day dates available in these months dial up Tag-A-Long Expeditions. Also consider camping overnight. Sheri Griffith Expeditions has a bounty of July and August dates. Westwater Lost and Found by Mike Milligan, a former raft guide, has a historical paperback worth reading in advance. Check out the “Click to Look INSIDE!” feature on Amazon to see a sample of the contents. Plan to give your copy to the raft guide or the river company as a part of your gratuity.

If you are more athletic, get up early; get out hiking to trails either inside or outside of the local parks. Relax during the heat of the day around your hotel pool. Rim Tours has an 18 mile Sunrise Downhill mountain bike tour going on these summer months. All riders need to be comfortable using handbrakes. A minimum of four is required for this tour.

Perhaps your child is too young for whitewater rafting or biking. Or wrangling an exhausted kid is unfavorable for this hot month in August? Contact Moab Kids Clubto care for your youth during your vacation in Moab. Available during the day or for a date night while in Moab. The Kids Club staff can entertain your youth in your local accommodations, at a park or the Moab library. Also available for childcare and pets would be the Moab Sitter.

The Kids Club can be a plus at the end of the day, when you wish to sample Moab brewed beer or Moab bottled wine. Be carefree. The thing is, mixing Moab up with an alternative for your offspring, you get do be active without cajoling the tyke to keep up with you. When the family comes back together, well, imagine how animated the dinner conversation will be about the separate experiences.

Make use of the long daylight hours of the desert in Moab Utah to play. You deserve this. You worked a strong schedule leading up to vacation time. More travel information is found on http://www.DiscoverMoab.com.
