VFS Global employees join effort to support child education, participate in ‘Walk for Education 2016’
Almost 150 VFS Global employees and their families joined the ‘Dubai Cares Walk for Education 2016’ to raise funds for education of underprivileged children around the world. ‘Walk for Education’ is held every year by philanthropic organisation Dubai Cares, as part of its efforts to raise aid for more than 14 million beneficiaries in 41 developing countries.
The VFS Global contingent participated in the 3 km walk along the Dubai Creek Park, followed by a day of fun and activities. The group was led by Mr Paul John Maliekkal, Deputy CEO – Visa Services, Mr Srinarayan Sankaran, COO – Middle East, and Mr Ajit Alexander – CEO, VFS TasHeel International.
With the support of the UAE community, Dubai Cares, which was launched in September 2007 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, has made a difference to the lives of children and their communities by:
- Building and renovating over 2,100 classrooms and schools
- Providing more than 1,400 water wells and potable water sources and constructing over 3,400 latrines in schools
- Providing nutritious food every day to 505,000 children in schools
- Training over 42,000 teachers
- Keeping more than 2.75 million children free from intestinal worms through its de-worming activities
- Distributing over 2.2 million books written in local languages
Reiterating VFS Global’s commitment to the cause of empowerment through education, Mr Paul John Malliekal, Deputy CEO – Visa Services, VFS Global, said, “Child education is central to VFS Global’s CSR philosophy and we believe it is at the core of empowerment of not just our youth, but also of nations. This is the second year we are participating in this event and we are honoured to join hands with Dubai Cares to support this worthy cause.”
