Video shows ‘hero’ stepping in and subduing rowdy

A drunken and disruptive young man wearing a floppy hat made life miserable for his fellow passengers and ignored pleas by cabin crew to desist – until an older, bearded  grey-haired man jumped up, grabbed him and put him in a chokehold.

The older man’s actions came after cabin crew spent close to an hour telling the young man to shut up. A flight attendant repeatedly told him, “You’re going to need to be quiet or I’ll call the police”, according to an eyewitness account reported in Britain’s Sun newspaper.

The younger man got up, shouted “Get out of my face ” and tried to ram his way past cabin crew – which was when the anonymous ‘hero’ intervened.

The grey-haired man jumped from the aisle and quickly put the younger man in a chokehold.

As so often with in-flight disruption, video footage captured the moment.

The eyewitness told The Sun: “He [the younger man] was making a nuisance of himself. Over the course of the flight he was singing loudly with his headphones on. It was a late flight, everyone was tired and he was rubbing people up the wrong way.”

Other passengers cheered and applauded as the older man locked his arms around the younger man and swiftly incapacitated him. Cries of “citizens arrest!” can be heard, along with a lot of expletives bleeped out of the vid.

Police met the unruly man when the flight from Girona arrived at Luton Airport near London. The carrier was Ryanair (little surprise there) which is campaigning to make airports impose a two-drink limit per passenger, with no alcohol sales before 10am, to deter passengers from “pre-loading” and boarding flights roaring drunk.
