Vietjet today celebrated its new international route connecting Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) to Tainan (Taiwan). Thanks to its convenient flight times, affordable fares and high quality services, the route is expected to boost socio-economic and cultural exchange between Taiwan and Vietnam, as well as contribute to regional integration for both destinations.
The Ho Chi Minh City – Tainan route is Vietjet’s second connection between the southern business and tourism hub of Ho Chi Minh City and Taiwan.
The Ho Chi Minh City – Tainan City route is operated on every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday with about three hours and 15 minutes per leg. The flights depart from Ho Chi Minh City at 10:45 (local time) and arrive in Tainan City at 15:00 (local time). Return flights take off from Tainan City at 16:00 (local time) and arrive in Ho Chi Minh City at18:15 (local time).

According to government statistics, there were 146,380 Vietnamese visiting Taiwan in 2015, growing by 23.5% compared to 2013. In addition, a recent Vietnam National Administration of Tourism’s report indicated that Taiwanese visitors to Vietnam in 2015 reached 202,000 with a growth rate of 15.2% year-on-year.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tainan Mayor Mr. William Lai, said, “We are very pleased that Vietjet selected Tainan as the first destination in the South of Taiwan. The new route is expected to benefit businessmen, tourists and people in both Taiwan and Vietnam. The convenient flight network will bring Tainan and Vietnam closer in the coming months and years.”

Vietjet has already opened 53 routes in Vietnam and across the region to international destinations such as Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, China and Myanmar. The airline boasts a fleet of 40 aircraft, including A320s and A321s, and operates 300 flights each day. Previously on June 18, Vietjet also increased flight frequency for Taipei – Ho Chi Minh City to two round trips per day and I believe that the number and frequency of bilateral passengers will climb at an even faster pace following these direct flights.”
