Bloomberg Businessweek, the world’s leading business and financial publication, has named Vietjet’s President and CEO, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao in their annual Bloomberg 50 (B50), making her the first Vietnamese representative in the list.

In addition to her role as President & CEO of Vietjet, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao is Chairperson

of Sovico Holdings as well as Standing Vice Chairperson of HDBank. She holds a Ph.D. in Economic Cybernetics and a bachelor’s degree in Credit-Finance. In 2017 she successfully listed Vietjet on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE) and HDBank in 2018. The market capitalizations from both of these companies have accounted for billions of dollars, resulting in Thao being the second richest person in Vietnam. In addition to her achievements this year, she has now become a Harvard Business School (HBS) case study.

The B50 announcement also comes as Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao recently made the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women list by Forbes, where she was also the only Vietnamese in the list ranking 44th, an 11 place increase compared to last year.

The 2018 B50 honourees include prestigious leaders and entrepreneurs in the global business landscape. Differentiating from other traditional power lists, the B50 showcases those who changed the past year in measurable, quantifiable ways thanks to the utilization of Bloomberg’s worldwide resources of 2,400 journalists, the proprietary data and analytics.
